Indians need to calm tf down. Stop seeking validation of power. On paper, without a doubt, China is multifold more powerful than India. But that does not mean China has the so-called power to stomp all over the country and ruin it in months or even years. Many things are considered, and the main reason why border skirmishes and wars have been close  because the Chinese Indian border and likewise the India Pakistan Border are very difficult terrain to fight it in. You can't just operate drones randomly at will, its very difficult and taxing  to operate in these regions. Considering how much of a smaller economy we are, the fact we can sustain ourselves is a great feat in and off of itself. Very few countries can survive against countries that are failing like Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Myannmar and very few can especially survive next to what is deemed to be the next superpower without giving up sovreingty. We have done that. And a large part has got to do with our whole military including those at DRDO BARC etc. We are a great regional power and it does not matter if we are superpower or not. We have capability to defend ourselves for the most part.

1) Obviously,the outstanding performance of our missiles and air defence. 

2) The sheer number of Chinese propaganda I'm coming across social media about Indian defence nowadays. The rise in the number has been very sharp and they've upped their ante on production value. I'm talking sponsored pro performance (choreographed songs, dance, cartoons) mocking them, multi layered HQ editing, bot accounts popping out of nowhere to circulate them. (Specially on TikTok)

Pakistan does not have 1 image to show any significant ground damage done to India. On the other hand we have plenty to show. 

Is our jet down? Maybe or maybe not. But their defense system was significantly penetrated. And deep in the Pakistan territory also.

Our indigenous weapons proved their worth. 

And don't forget, no country came for our help. Other than a support from Israel and Russia. On the other hand, Pakistan literally got billions of dollar loans in the middle of war.

We were on our own, and we did hold our own.

Exactly! We have achieved so much in the last few days but people are feeling disappointed due to the narrative set by the outside forces. This is the reason Indians never rise. Because they look at themselves through the global perception of India.

We have issues, but from a global perspective we are one of the countries to look out for.

I don’t know about that or if it changes the global order, but it is the only country that has the balls to strike deep into another nuke armed country. That is extremely risky and for all war mongers, one nuke is enough for the devastation that you cannot imagine. So they did what no world power will even think about doing. Take it as you will, but it does sends a message to all of our neighbors. But de-escalation was required. A responsible country will  always prioritize any loss of citizens over a military victory. And loss of citizens in a nuke attack would be unthinkable. Again, you just need ONE nuke to get through. 

All these other countries are bullying countries with rebel armies or are armies that are so diminished that they don’t even have the ability to retaliate at all.  Russia blasting Ukraine , US blasting fragmented Middle East or Africa , China ..I don’t even know what they have done militarily after WW2 and supporting rouge countries behind the scenes with weapons or money. 

India needs to continue getting stronger with economy.

No. It's the hard truth that you have to gulp down and improvise. Our air force is outdated. We have an information warfare issue. We fail to generate a narrative around the world. One method that works within a country doesn't mean it'll work for the whole world. It's not how it works. I was happy that we started well, but couldn't stick to it. The ceasefire should've been accepted only with some certain leveraging conditions. The morale is low with people questioning the government over sudden acceptance of ceasefire and we're not getting the answers we deserve.

Hats off to our army for being so professional and lethal on all the fronts. We did emerge as a super power but the narrative was earlier set by Pakistan, playing the victim card. 

Modiji and Jaishankar need to set the actual narrative into play (internationally), call out every move of the Pakistanis. We need strong international allies to fight the future wars, we need their unwavering diplomatic support.

And lastly, the fourth pillar of our democracy needs to do better. Fact checks must be done before reporting, sources needs to be mentioned, so the world can trust news sources comming out of India.

It's all about the narrative you set, modern wars are diplomatic. Pakistan even now are trying their hardest to set the narrative, it needs to be addressed and called out as soon as possible on the international stage.

First is to estimate when a new jet will arrive. Lets say 2035 but there are risks of delays.

Pakistan could have hundreads of J-35 by 2035 and I would say India's current fleet would lose against that even with a hundred gripens. China would have maybe 1000 J-20 and 200 J-36/J-50 by 2035 outclass India like US outclass Iraq/Iran.

IMHO India can get by using weakass fighters if for the fact that nobody is going to hit India realistically - the Chinese is busy dealing with the USA, while Russia isn't going to attack India in the first place.

The issue is that, looking at China, the reason why India is going absolutely nowhere with their planes is hardly an issue of not using their funding correctly so much as severe corruption and being simply unserious in it.

Don't just focus on  fighters. Have a look at Aew&amp;c, air refueling aircrafts, transport aircrafts. Especially AEW&amp;C, Indian indigenous ones were so bad that it failed to meet 8 different requirements and DRDO refused to even address some of the requirements. Rafale M is not a rumor and it has nothing to do with the Indian Air Force. It will be part of the Indian Navy . A navalized tejas does not meet naval requirement,  being short on power/payload.  Productionizing it will take years and still not meet the need. The point of a carrier group is air power. Your proposal here is a no go. Forcing the two carriers to get by on limited /partial mig29k numbers and leaving them in jeopardy , underutilized thereafter.

 When the ccs approves funds for an accepted program of need for a phase, they then proceed to contract. Legal penalties may apply for contract breaking

The main problem with India's fighter jet programs is that their own defense contractors aren't subjected to any competitive forces which has started plaguing Russia to some extent as of late. The countries that often have the best implementations military aerospace technology will have contractors either playing against each other or in the case of India's biggest adversary will have their state-owned defense sector create internally competitive forces to extract the best results from this rivalry ...

The root of the problem is the failure or unwillingness to acknowledge it's current development status and the maturity of it's industry as a whole making them reach for unrealistic pie in the sky targets.

When you are about to soon deliver your first domestic basic trainer but still talk about Gen 5+ AMCA as it's just around the corner you have a problem with self perception.

The way forward is not an easy choice, there will be nothing domestic built before 2040 that can even put a dent in the air superiority gap with China but even if India sucked up to the U.S and bought the F-35 you would need hundreds of them, with current orders and wait lines that will not happened before 2040 either.

This means that India may not be able to cope with any geopolitical challenges in the next two decades. It sounds terrifying, but even if you buy Refale, it doesn't make much difference. Although the purchase of Rafale is better than nothing, it will not enable India to have the ability to deal with China or overwhelm Pakistan, nor the absence of it will make India vulnerable to any invasion.

The best strategy is to develop the AMCA as soon as possible (I am pessimistic about this), the less better strategy is to purchase 100 F-35s, and the last strategy is to advance the Tejas fighter project but purchase only in small quantities (because Tejas is basically barely better than Mig-21). The worst I can imagine is Refale.

1. Don’t be so easily swayed by US overtures - they will use India to bring down China and then ultimately turn to dismantle India

2. Rapprochement with China (including all those ludicrous border claims after letting British imperialism get to their heads), sign a raft of treaties (economic, but military if possible as well), take an equal role in leading BRICS and the Global South

3. Have 3 squadrons of J-35A by 2030. Maybe even some J-35s for the Indian Navy. With any luck, throw in some ToT and local production.

4. Enquire about the J-20, J-50/XDS and maybe even J-36 in 2032

5. Start AMCA LRIP in 2035, using help from CAC or SAC - or just continue to build J-35s under licence.
